TEHRAN – Masoud Pezeshkian, the newly elected President of Iran, has received congratulatory phone calls from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, signaling a continuation and potential expansion of Iran's strategic partnerships.

In his conversation with Erdogan, Pezeshkian reaffirmed the deep-rooted relationship between Iran and Turkey. Erdogan expressed Turkey's commitment to further strengthening ties in diverse fields during Pezeshkian's presidency. Both leaders discussed mutual relations and regional and international developments.

Pezeshkian's call with Putin focused on the importance of Iran-Russia relations. He emphasized his commitment to implementing agreements signed during the previous administration of the late Ebrahim Raeisi and further expanding cooperation. The president-elect underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration in regional and international organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and the Eurasian Economic Union. 

Pezeshkian highlighted the finalization of documents for a comprehensive Iran-Russia cooperation agreement, poised for imminent signing. Putin expressed congratulations and best wishes for Pezeshkian's presidency, while both leaders agreed to establish personal contact within the year. They also underscored the strong bilateral relationship based on good neighborliness and reaffirmed their dedication to bolstering cooperation across various sectors. 

Pezeshkian emerged victorious during the runoff presidential elections held on July 5, with 53.7 percent of the vote.
